Uttlesford District Council were runner up in the E-Computer Weekly E-Business Excellence - Knowledge Management Awards for the improved access they have provided to the democratic processes of the Council, which has been achieved by implementing CMIS (Strategic Knowledge Management System for Modern Government).
The Computer Weekly E-Business Excellence Awards held on 27th November demonstrated how the best UK organisations are using IT to deliver real business benefits and gain a competitive edge.
The Knowledge Management Awards category assesses how e-business technology is applied inside an organisation to share information and allow collaborative working. This includes using technology to cut the cost of existing information sharing systems and developing new systems to improve decision-making.
In working towards the Government’s 2005 e-government target Uttlesford have implemented new ICT facilities to improve access to the democratic processes of the Council - CMIS.
CMIS provides online access to all Council committee papers, including reports, agendas and minutes and electronically manages the call-in process. Through CMIS, Uttlesford have enabled elected committee members both at home, in Council offices and the public to access committee information.
John Mercer Head of IT & Audit Services at Uttlesford District Council said, ” we are extremely pleased to be runner up in the E-Business Awards. Implementing CMIS has improved communications between members, officers and the public, reduced our committee costs in excess of £8,000 a year on paper alone, as well as helping us progress towards BVPI 157.”
