New E-Petitions Software for Local Government

25 Mar 2010

One of the most requested features for CMIS v5.0 has been an e-petitions module to enable citizens to set up their own online petitions for submission to their Local Authority.

We have been working in partnership with a number of Authorities over recent months to develop an effective e-Petitions software module for the CMIS democratic management system. The new module is now ready for general release as both a standalone hosted E-Petitions system for Local Councils and as a module for our full CMIS v5.0 Democratic Management Solution.

The new CMIS E-Petitions software enables citizens to set up their own online petition on the Authority’s website. The system is easy-to-use for both the citizen and the Authority, and gives Authorities a transparent and trustworthy way to manage online petitions.

Once a citizen has created a petition the Authority can review it for suitability before it is published. If the petition is accepted and approved it is made available to the wider public as an active petition on the Authority’s website. People can then read the petition and, if they wish to, sign it electronically. A summary of the petition responses is recorded and displayed and, once the end date and time has passed, the final results are published.

The Authority can use the e-petitions software to manage responses and follow-up actions to the petition. These actions, follow-ups and responses can also be published on the website.
